Baby Blues

This is the term commonly used to describe post partum depression, a common condition of physical origin manifesting itself emotionally, and linked to hormonal changes as the body reverts to its pre pregnant state. Fortunately it is usually of short duration, but it can raise stress levels if it persists, so if you are worried, do consult your doctor, who will be able to advise. Avoid the temptation of pressing your child too hard to achieve results. Awareness of high parental expectations can be a spur but if overdone can be stressful. Much better than pressurizing and nagging is to show a genuine, sustained interest in school work and activities. Be sure to ask your child about his or her day at school, and take time to listen to what he has to say. Develop a relationship with your grandchildren this can often be very special and rewarding but don’t take on more than your can cope with easily. For example, you may find having young grandchildren to stay surprisingly tiring and stressful, and visits of this kind are probably best kept brief.
