NON - GONOCOCCAL URETHRITIS

In Great Britain urethritis in males is now more commonly due to organisms other than the gonococcus. In general it is a milder and more chronic infection caused by a variety of organisms, such as Esch. Coli staphylococci, streptococci, Trichomonas vaginalis or a mixture of these. Treatment is by the appropriate chemo therapy. In a considerable number of cases, however, no organism can be detected. Some of these are accompanied by conjunctivitis or arthritis, a combination known as Reiter’s syndrome for which there is no specific treatment.
